Ikea floalt panel11/4/2023 Was pretty cheap, I think about 30E for the 15 pieces. The Kallax "drawers" were lined with 3mm particle board(?) that I had precut at a home improvement store. I think I used one piece of 2.5m, can be cut with a utility knife. The edges of the panels and the space in between was lined with the stuff that you use on the edges of wood flooring, the exact English name escapes me now: (first one, Wenge color). Plus another set of ceiling hanging set for the back panel. I think they ended up costing about 200E in total.ģ panels were used in the front, 1 on the back for a small technical workplace: LED Panels: - 120x30cm, silver frame, dimmable and with adjustable color temperature. As everything was sourced from Germany I'll just try to give some search equivalents. Happy to provide any details if someone wants to build a similar thing. The 3mm panels were fixed with hot glue while a self-made fixture was used to keep them in place, at the same distance from the edge. On the backside, the hardware was "reinforced" with wood screws into the Kallax as well as a healthy application of hot glue. Not happy with those, had to add some reinforcement because of the really soft aluminum frames. The fixing was done with "spring" panel hardware meant to be used in dropped ceilings. I'm an engineer, not an artist, this is what looked best to my eyes. There is a cherry panel underneath the fake "window sill" for contrast. I wish the lowest brightness would be lower, but it's fine as it is.Įverything was filled with black/charcoal panels after some testing. The panels can be ganged for remote control, have adjustable temperature and brightness. One panel was dropped and slightly damaged (estethically) so it was used on the back side, where the small workbench was build. I've been through a few iterations, decided on foregoing the drapes completely. Filled the Kallax with 10$ worth of 3mm custom-cut panels, instead of paying 12$ for each panel/drawer insert. Just as an update, I did my own version with 4 LED panels that ended costing around 120$ in total.
